English course review and self-evaluation

Today I was thinking about my experience studying English at this university. I would say that it has been pretty exciting, not only because I learned things that are going to be useful in grammar, but also because I had the opportunity to speak and engage in almost real conversations of daily life.  I think that the in-person lessons were more effective and helpful than online classes, mainly because I had the opportunity to do pair conversations and ask questions while doing the activities. In online classes I think that was more difficult because we often had problems with internet or noise issues, and we couldn´t engage as well as in-person classes.  In regards to writing blogs, I think that there are useful tools to exercise the class content, but I would like to see other types of exams, specially essays or these types of things where you can express yourself more freely and without a word count so bounded. The other thing that I would like to see, especially in b...

Changes to my study programme

Imagen
Today I was thinking about changing my study programme.  I am currently studying anthropology at the University of Chile. This programme has five curricular subjects and two elective subjects. That means that I have to study 7 different subjects in one week. Those are English, writing and reading in social studies, contemporary problems in anthropology: globalization, fundamental problems in anthropology three, archive and ethnography, complex societies and statistics. i wouldn't change it because It´s very reasonable to have these types of subjects at this level The workload is diverse within different subjects, there is a lot of text that we have to read and often we run out of time. The subjects that are more dense in this semester are statistics, archive and ethnography and complex societies. To graduate from this major we have to study 5 years and read a lot, usually the first two years, then we have to read specific subjects and do a lot of workfield.I would change the...

time travel to the past or the future

Imagen
Hi, in today blog i´m going to talk about time travel When thinking about this I immediately would like to visit the past. The time of colonization of the Americas, because I am deeply interested in how the amerindian cultures lived and understood the coming of europeans. Their ideational representation of the world and understanding of these types of “outsiders”. There’s a quote from levis-strauss that goes something like “while the europeans were searching for a soul in the indian (amerindian) communities, the indians were drowning europeans to see if they had a body like theirs” That means that, being “human” or a “person” in europe is whether if you have a soul; and being human in amerindian communities is related to “having a body”. I would like to see and understand this type of thinking. And also I would like to understand the different cultures that were living there. That is because today we don't have a lot of data to think about these societies and we don't have th...

A Job I would like to have in the future

Imagen
Hi again, it's me, Sebastián and today I am going to talk about my dream job. I would like to work doing academic research in topics like gender equality, anthropology in class studies and ontological research in amerindian societies. This job has the characteristic of being interdisciplinary, moving a lot in different contexts, having to stay a long time in the community and sharing ways of living. I want this job because I like research and spending time with people. Also I love to listen to different kinds of realities that people have been living usually unnoticed. I would like it because I think that it's important to theorize these different ways of living, especially if these results are going to affect these communities.  I think I would be good at this job because I am currently working on the abilities and skills to perform well in this. It usually requires a lot of discipline, comprehensive skills, social skills and systematic thinking. I think that if I´m not rea...
